The Dream Machine is a mixed-reality project that combines virtual and augmented reality, music, storytelling, and AI to create immersive, participatory experiences rooted in Afrofuturist ideas. Conceived by Nona Hendryx, it invites participants, or Dreamers, to explore interactive XR worlds that use sound and narrative to reflect on identity, technology, and possible futures, emphasizing collective and embodied engagement over passive viewing. The project has evolved through multiple iterations and was eventually presented at Lincoln Center as part of its public arts programming.
